Dubai - Arab Today

Lively cultural activities in Al Shindagha Hertiage area, Dubai As another glorious edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival gets into full swing, spectacular celebrations are drawing visitors to several locations in the emirate including the Al Shindagha Heritage Area. One of the popular tourism attractions of Dubai, Al Shindagha Hertiage area is pulsating with a spread of lively cultural activities and exciting traditional events – offering DSF visitors a glimpse into the Emirati way of living.
The area is reverberating to the sounds of Emirati music being churned out by local performers donned in cultural attire – playing the traditional drums and dancing to the tunes of cultural beats.
Visitors interested in imparting a cultural touch to their ensembles are getting their hands on a diverse collection of accessories, which are shimmering on the tables of several kiosks selling a wide variety of ornaments at numerous spots throughout the area.
The area is also showcasing and selling traditional fishing and diving equipment –meticulously created on the spot by local tradesmen. Fishing and diving has been an integral part of the local trade in the region for many centuries.
Little girls and women keen on getting a taste of the local traditions are getting their hands painted with intricate designs and patterns by talented henna artists. Henna painting is a cultural custom enjoyed by most women from the region as well as neighbouring countries.
Tourists wanting to pick up souvenirs and gifts – mirroring the country’s rich traditions and customs, are picking up knick-knacks at reasonable prices that are available at plenty of kiosks in the Heritage Area.
Special cultural events native to the region, such as the Falconry Show, Camel Caravan, Bedouin Life Scenario, Art Exhibition and The Popular Market – Productive Families – are also lined up for both families and children partaking in the DSF festivities at several spots in the Al Shindagha Heritage Area, including the Bedouin Square and Shaikh Obaid Bin Thani House.
The Diving Village at the Heritage Square has opened its gates to visitors interested in unique adventures such as Oyster splitting activities, traditionally popular games, musical bands and coastal cultural wedding show, as well a unique diving equipment gallery.
