Tony Thompson celebrates dramatic victory over David Price
American boxer Tony Thompson has launched a scathing attack on British rival Tyson Fury, after the former's disrespectful comments about Thompson's devastating knockout victory
over David Price last month.
Fury, who is set for an IBF title eliminator with Steve Cunningham in New York in April, told Manchester Evening News that he would beat Thompson to "show Price how to deal with a grandad."
Thompson, 41, has fired back and accused Fury of avoiding fighters. "With the big man comes a big mouth, and if Steve Cunningham doesn't school him, I am happy to be responsible for tipping the British Heavyweight scene on its head," Thompson said.
The American, who stunned Liverpool's Echo arena with a devastating second-round win over hometown favourite Price last month, as adamant he can make it a double on British soil. "He [Fury] flaps his mouth of being disrespectful to everyone yet he didn’t have the balls to face his fellow countryman in the undefeated David Price who I managed to stop in two rounds. He carries on like he is already champion of the world when let’s face it – who has he faced?"
Thompson's wife and manager Sydnee confirmed that the team is considering a number of options. "We have had offers coming in from all over the World including New Zealand and Macau. [Deontay] Wilders' name has been thrown about but no serious offer has come from his camp as yet. Tony is fresh and ready to go," she said.
