Pacquiao's wife Jinkee broke down on national television
British boxer Ricky Hatton has added his voice to calls for Manny Pacquiao to retire from the sport. Hatton, who recently came out of retirement and lost his comeback fight against Vyacheslav Senchenko, fears his
former opponent Pacquiao could ruin his legacy by continuing to box.
The Filipino was brutally knocked out by Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in the sixth round at the MGM Grand on Saturday night. Since then, he cried on national television apologising to his loyal fan base. His wife and mother have also called for the 33-year old to hang up his gloves for good.
Hatton himself was knocked out by Pacquiao in May 2009, a fight which prompted his retirement before last month's unsuccessful return to the ring.
He told AFP: "The only advice I could give Manny Pacquiao is that his legacy is already secured. The thing with us fighters is that there is always one more fight. What's he (Pacquiao) going to achieve by having one more fight? Probably nothing. He's an eight-weight world champion. There's nothing more to be said."
After Saturday's encounter, Timothy Bradley, who claimed a controversial decision over Pacquaio in June said he thinks Pacman will return to the ring. He told Palm Springs USA: "It was a great fight for Marquez, who is one hell of a fighter. A knockout like this won't dampen his (Pacquiao's) drawing power. People still love and respect him. He'll probably come back, and probably fight Marquez again (laughing)."
Bradley himself said he would be happy to fight Marquez sometime next year.
