Part of the proceeds from Golden Foot will to go Messi's charity foundation
A replica of Barcelona striker Lionel Messi's foot made completely out of 24-carat gold has gone on sale in Japan.
The Golden Foot, officially
on display in Tokyo, has been made by Japanese jeweller Ginza Tanaka - who took a cast of the foot at the end of 2012 – to commemorate the the player's footballing achievements.
The mantelpiece is valued at £3.5m, a small fraction of the estimated £216m valuation of the Argentinian forward.
Speaking at the official unveiling, Messi’s brother Rodrigo said: “It’s exceptional. You can see each line in the foot. It’s an impressive piece of work.”
Part of the proceeds will go to Messi’s foundation, which in turn will support children in areas affected by the earthquake and tsunami disaster that hit Japan in March 2011.
