FIFA President Sepp Blatter (L) in Jordan
FIFA President Sepp Blatter has visited the Zaatari refugee camp as part of his visit to Jordan.
The senior football official was joined
by FIFA's vice-president in Asia and head of the Jordan Football Association (JFA) Prince Ali bin al-Hussein.
Prince Ali briefed Blatter about the humanitarian situation of the Syrian refugees at the camp near Mafra, and the services being provided to them.
A presentation was made by ?the refugee delegation officials in the Zaatari camp, and the sports committee formed ?inside the camp.?
Blatter met children in the camp and gifted them shirts with the FIFA slogan.
Speaking at a joint press conference, the FIFA president commended Prince Ali’s efforts to advance Jordanian football, noting that Jordan is two steps away from reaching the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
As third-place finishers in both Asian qualifying groups playing in a two-leg play-off, Jordan will meet Uzbekistan, on September 6 and 10.
The winner will then play the fifth-placed side in South America in an intercontinental home-and-away play-off on November 15 and 19.
Blatter said he has been following the development of football in Jordan for a long time - from the time King ?Abdullah II was the head of the football federation.
Prince Ali thanked Blatter for his support for Jordanian football, noting that years of hard work have led the national team to this stage.
Jordanian sources said Blatter's visit is aimed at pressurising Israel into facilitating the transportation of ?football players from Palestinian territories into Israel.
