AC Leopards were unable to unseat Ahly, despite a late goal
Egyptian champions Al Ahly have won a record fifth CAF Super Cup title, after beating Congolese team AC Leopards 2-1 on Saturday.
Youngster Rami Rabiea and Mohamed Barakat
scored two second-half goals for the Cairo club at Alexandria’s Borg El Arab Stadium, before the AC Leopards’ Rudy Guelord Bhebey-Ndey scored a consolation goal 12 minutes from the final whistle.
Ahly broke a deadlock that dominated the first-half 10 minutes after the break, when Rabiea reached the net from outside the box.
Veteran Barakat added a second in the 71st minute, running onto a pass from El Said Bekhit.
AC Leopards, from the western Congolese city of Dolisie, fought hard to regain the initiative but Ndey’s effort came too late.
It is the fifth time in Ahly's history that they have won the trophy.
Police restricted 10,000 fans into the stadium, despite it having a 45,000 total capacity.
