American David Zabriskie dominated the field in the Tour of California's sixth stage
American David Zabriskie dominated the field in the Tour of California's sixth stage, a 24 kilometre time trial ride around the Danish settlement of Solvang.
While Zabriskie, of Garmin-Cervelo, captured the stage his American compatriot Chris Horner held onto the yellow jersey but saw his lead reduced.
Three-time race winner Levi Leipheimer cut Horner's overall lead to just 38 seconds.
Zabriskie completed the 24 kilometre (15 mile) course in 30 minutes, 35.92 seconds at an average speed of 47.2 km per hour.
"I wanted to leave the race with something," said Zabriskie, who is in 15th overall. "So, I am happy."
RadioShack's Leipheimer finished in 30:49.80 and Teejay Van Garderen, of HTC-Highroad, was third in 31:15.94.
Horner started the time trial with a 1:15 lead over Leipheimer.
"I felt my lead was safe," said Horner. "I just didn't want to throw the bike down in some gravel."
Horner now has the difficult task of trying to hold onto his overall lead heading into Saturday's seventh stage which finishes with a gruelling climb up Mount Baldy.
The seventh stage is 122-kilometres long, beginning in Claremont and wrapping up near the alpine village of Mount Baldy where the riders will climb to almost 2,000 metres (6,419 feet) above sea level.
