FIFA President Sepp Blatter
FIFA President Sepp Blatter has awarded England's St. George’s Park with a 500,000 US dollars funding package, as part of the Goal project. The money will be used to help make the training facility, which opened
earlier this summer, a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence.
Blatter told reporters: "The facilities here are fantastic and set a very high standard for the rest of the world. We are delighted to have made a contribution to the medical centre, which is truly impressive."
English Football Association Chairman David Bernstein thanked FIFA for their continued support. "This is fantastic and reflects FIFA’s commitment to raising standards within the game around the world and to our improving relationship with FIFA," he said.
Launched in 1999, the Goal programme allows each member association of FIFA to receive funding for football development projects that respond to the special needs of their national associations.
To date, a total of 250 million US dollars have been invested in footballing facilities around the world.
