The joint statement of the Tehran Summit for the guarantor states of the Astana process affirmed commitment to the unity and sovereignty of the Syrian territory and the continuation of combating terrorism.

The statement was released following a tripartite meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which was held in Tehran on Friday.

The statement said that Russia, Iran, and Turkey are committed to the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Syria and the objectives and principles of the UN Charter, and that everyone should adhere to these points.

The statement affirmed the necessity of continuing cooperation to eliminate the terrorist organizations, especially Daesh (ISIS) and Jabhat al-Nusra, expressing the satisfaction of the guarantor states over the achievements made in light of the Astana meeting to resolve the crisis in Syria, stressing that the solution of the crisis is not a military one.

The statement reiterated the need to separate the terrorist organizations and the “armed opposition” which joined the de-escalation agreement.

It also expressed the Russian-Iranian-Turkish satisfaction over the achievements made in the field of reducing tension and establishing security and stability in Syria.

They also stressed the need to continue the path of tripartite cooperation on the basis of previous agreements on de-escalation zones and to pursue this cooperation on the basis of Astana talks.

The next triple summit will be held in the Russia Federation, according to the statement.
