At least 22 Afghan security personnel were killed after a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the mosque of a military base in eastern Khost province, an official said on Friday.
The incident that took place inside the base's mosque in the capital city of the province also wounded 33 other soldiers, a spokesman for the provincial governor, Talib Mangal, said.
The soldiers were participating in Friday prayers when the explosion took place, provincial council member Jan Mir Zazai said.
The wounded soldiers were transferred to nearby hospitals as well to capital Kabul city for further treatment, Mangal said.
No group has yet taken responsibility for the attack, but the Taliban has often been blamed for such attacks previously.
On November 12, the Taliban claimed an attack that killed at least 37 security force personnel in western Farah province.
