A Singapore Airlines (SIA) Airbus A380 superjumbo which was en route to Frankfrurt was forced to turn around after an engine problem was reported by pilots. Over 430 passengers were transferred to another flight after returning to Singapore. “Flight SQ26, which was carrying more than 430 passengers, landed at 6:40 a.m. local time after its crew reported a problem with one of the jet’s four Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines nearly three hours after takeoff”, the airline said in a statement. The spokesperson for the carrier said the engine would undergo thorough inspections in consultation with the engine manufacturer. In July, an A380 SIA flight from Singapore to Hong Kong was aborted when one of the four Rolls Royce engines shut down. Meanwhile a Qantas A380 made an emergency landing in Singapore back in 2010 after one of its engines exploded mid-flight.
