London - Arabstoday

Moab’s unique combination of beautiful red rock scenery, two national parks, and the cool waters of the Colorado River has made it one of the most sought-after destinations in the southwest. Moab serves as an ideal base camp for world-famous mountain biking, hiking, four-wheel driving, river trips of any length and experience level, or even for a relaxing visit to simply enjoy the scenery along the beautiful scenic drives in the national parks or on Moab’s three Scenic Byways. Juergen Thomas Steinmetz, Chairman of ICTP, said: “We are excited to welcome a second tourism agency from the state of Utah. This demonstrates Utah’s understanding of the importance of travel and tourism agencies and organizations working together to create maximum marketing exposure. We are also pleased that Moab is as committed to the principles of green tourism as is ICTP.” Moab’s perfect climate has made it a magnet for year-round outdoor events and festivals, and the downtown business district has risen to the occasion with a great collection of restaurants, shops, and galleries. Moab’s diverse cuisine will please any palate, from regional southwestern fare to world-class gourmet. Stroll through the downtown shops for a great selection of southwestern arts and jewelry, souvenirs, t-shirts, and much more. Those that love to walk, run, or cycle will love the Mill Creek Parkway, a paved pedestrian walkway that meanders through the heart of Moab. The Executive Director of the Moab Area Travel Council, Marian DeLay, said: “Moab is happy to be a member of the International Council of Tourism Partners. Moab is already one of the country’s small rural towns that has begun to consider the green aspect as a quality of life issue. In April 2006, Mayor Dave Sakrison challenged 5 percent of the Moab area electricity customers to purchase pollution-free wind energy through Utah Powers Blue Sky voluntary wind program to become the region’s first Blue Sky Community. With the help of Utah Clean Energy, the City of Moab, and Utah Power, Moab met the goal in a little over a month. Moab has also been labeled as the nation’s first EPA Green Community. Tourism is very important to this community, and we are excited to offer clean air and clean alternatives to our visitors.”
