In compliance with Dubai's vision to be a role model to the world in energy security and efficiency, Dubai Airport Freezone (DAFZA) has successfully obtained an international standard for energy management (ISO 50001:2009) for its daily operations using the latest equipments in its 12 buildings stretching over 700.000 sqm. H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Airport Freezone (DAFZA), received the certificate from Dr Mohammed Al Zarouni, Director General of DAFZA, accompanied by other executive Directors. Sheikh Ahmed commended the great efforts that DAFZA has made to maintain energy efficiency, and its commitment to enhancing sustainability in the field. Commenting on the achievement, Dr Al Zarooni said, "DAFZA treats sustainable energy very seriously, and is very keen to adopt the best international practices. Saving energy is one of DAFZA's strategic objectives, and we have adopted the latest technologies and equipment to help reduce energy consumption in all our facilities. Two years ago, we successfully implemented the green building technology initiative. "DAFZA also encourages its tenants to implement standards for environment protection by assigning a reward for the best company in preserving the environment. The initiative was lauded by the companies which have contributed to a noticeable reduction in energy". Engineer Adel Ghafan, senior executive director of the engineering division, DAFZA commented, "It has been a strategic goal at the Freezone to drive forwards a more sustainable, energy efficient environment. We uphold international standards across the Freezone, in terms of facilities and services; therefore it is imperative that we do so with respect to energy management and the sustainable life cycle of our buildings.
