Al-Haramain metro will be run on electric energy
Jeddah - Arab Today

A well-informed source revealed that Al-Haramain train project will be operated by electricity instead of nuclear or magnetic energy, in order to achieve the operational and economic feasibility of the project.
The source said the use of the more feasible electric power in the project will be based on a number of controls and standards, stressing the fact that there are a number of hazards that would hinder the economic feasibility of running trains using nuclear or magnetic power.
The source explained that after the study of all options and alternatives, it turned out that operating the train project using electric energy is the best feasible alternative in terms of operational and economic aspects. The most important constraint facing the use of nuclear or magnetic energy is the high temperatures of some of the regions of the train track.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Sulaiman bin Abdullah Al-Hamdan was briefed during an inspection tour on the works being implemented in Jeddah.
The works include the construction of infrastructure and work for the train track. He was briefed by the project general manager on the workflow and its time plan. The minister gave directions to exert more efforts and for the provision of the required equipment and labor force to avoid delays and to complete the project according to the time schedule. The minister continued the inspection tour on the train track, the roads where the train will pass through, and the work being implemented along the road to Rabigh.
Al-Haramain train will enjoy some unique specifications and features compared to other trains in the world, including being able to operate under special circumstances where trains in other countries could not run or operate.
Some of the specification are commensurate with the weather conditions of the Kingdom, where temperatures in winter drop to less than zero, in some regions the train track passes through, and goes up in the summer to more than 56° C in some regions.
