Cairo - Arabstoday

Results of an opinion poll conducted by MasterCard revealed that 78 percent of Egyptians prefer domestic tourism, while 12 percent expressed the desire to spend their vacations abroad. Sixty percent of participants intend to travel to Alexandria during the next year while ten percent preferred to travel to Cairo, Aswan, and Luxor. The poll also revealed that Egypt kept its position as a favorite destination for tourists from the Gulf States, especially Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar. The Regional Manager of Master Card in North Africa, Shaun Rashid, said that most Egyptians prefer to travel for recreation and relaxation. This leads Egyptians to travel to local cities with a tourist industry, which could lead to supporting the tourism industry in Egypt. The poll revealed that 81 percent of Egyptians plan to travel with their families during their vacations, while 19 percent prefer to travel with their friends. A quarter of Egyptians percent travel for recreation and relaxation, according to the poll, while six percent travel to know archeological sites.
