Lebanese-born soul singer released the first recording in over 2 years since her debut album release in the fall of 2013. The emotional cover of “Imagine” by John Lennon was recorded in collaboration with renowned Oud musician Kamal Musallam who has become widely recognized for his jazzy interpretation of the ancient oriental instrument rarely used in western music.
The duo joined forces to bring forth a message of peace and unity in a time they felt was in dire need of a positive perspective. The six-minute music video released on youtube on the eve of Christmas highlights acts of kindness and a positive take on recent events around the world. The edit shows footage of Syrian refugees warmly greeted in Germany, highlights of animal kindness and a number of shots from newsfeeds around the world on a variety of prevalent topics. The fusion performance with hypnotizing sounds of the oud aimed at giving people what artist Rouba called “A positive break from all the noise”.
The Dubai-based singer is adamant on using her voice to empower people around her and spread messages of peace, “This has been a true labor of love through every step and I still get emotional every time I watch the video,” she explains, “I genuinely hope that the message goes through and reminds people that goodness still prevails in spite of all the challenges mankind is facing at the moment.
