Irish actor Pierce Brosnan is to star in a sequel to his soon-to-be-released action-thriller The November Man.
Brosnan first announced the project on Tuesday's edition of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Relativity Studios confirmed the news with a formal announcement Wednesday.
Based on Bill Granger's bestselling book series, the films follow the adventures of Peter Devereaux, a highly trained, ex-CIA agent whose code name is "The November Man."
The studio said it is going into pre-production on the sequel in advance of the first film's Aug. 27 theatrical release.
Beau St. Clair and Brosnan will produce the followup -- as they did the original film -- through their Irish Dreamtime banner with Sriram Das of Das Films.
"The November Man is a gritty series that re-invents the spy genre with its master Pierce Brosnan by combining the best elements of James Bond and Jason Bourne while echoing the cool, sleek action movies of the 70s. We are excited to launch The November Man later this month and to continue to explore Peter Devereaux's dangerous world with Pierce over the years to come," Robbie Brenner, president of production at Relativity, said in a statement.
"The November Man is an iconic, tough character and I am excited to partner with Relativity to continue to bring him to life," Brosnan added.
The 61-year-old actor played secret agent James Bond in four films between 1995 and 2002.
