South Korea and the United States' top negotiators on North Korea's nuclear program will hold talks in Seoul next week, the Korean foreign ministry said Tuesday.
The ministry's special representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Kim Hong-kyun agreed with his US counterpart Sung Kim to meet on September 13, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, referring to their phone conversation a day earlier, state news agency (Yonhap) reported.
The two Kims discussed "detailed countermeasures" against North Korea's ballistic missile launch on Monday, the ministry said in a brief note to the press. It did not disclose details of measures discussed. In its latest ballistic missile test, the North fired off three Rodong missiles from its east coast. The missiles flew about 1,000 kilometers before landing in waters near Japan.
The South Korean and US officials also agreed to keep up their collaboration to forge additional measures in reaction to the ballistic missile launches being carried out by Pyongyang, according to the ministry. "Both sides will work closely together in order to keep sending out warnings against North Korea at various bilateral and multilateral levels," it added.
