The United States and India have agreed to increase security cooperation in the South China Sea and the Indian Ocean. The two countries are apparently aiming to keep China's expanding maritime activities in check.
US President Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met at the White House on Tuesday. They welcomed the basic agreement reached by the two countries in April of this year on military cooperation in the area of logistical support.
The US and India also agreed to work toward finalizing a contract by June of 2017 for Westinghouse, a US subsidiary of Japan's Toshiba, to build 6 nuclear reactors in India based on a bilateral civil nuclear pact signed in 2008.
