Qatar Petroleum (QP) President & CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi held a meeting with the employees of Maersk Oil Qatar. Al-Kaabi also conducted a video conference today with the company's employees present at the offshore facilities of Al-Shaheen oil field.
Both the Town Hall meeting and the video conference were organized to express QP’s commitment to support the safe and continuous operation of Al-Shaheen oil field.
Al-Shaheen oil field is located 80 km off Qatar’s shores, and it is the largest oil field in the country, currently producing at around 300,000 barrels of oil per day.
The existing exploration and production sharing agreement with Maersk Oil Qatar that governs the operation of Al-Shaheen field will expire mid-2017. Last year, QP issued invitations to a group of leading international oil & gas companies to participate in a competitive evaluation process, with the successful company being selected for the field’s future operation and development. Maersk Oil Company is among the companies invited.
QP announced at the time that the selection of the partner will be based on its ability to offer the best technological solutions for the field’s development combined with the best financial return to the State of Qatar.
In his speech to the employees of Maersk Oil Qatar, Al-Kaabi signaled QP’s intention to offer continuity of service to people who are contributing to the success of Al-Shaheen operation. He also expressed QP’s appreciation for the role that the employees have played in the development of Qatar’s largest oil field over the past 23 years.
Al-Kaabi said "QP’s aim is to provide continuity of service to the people contributing to the success of Al-Shaheen operations. QP supports those serving the development of Qatar; and as the heart of Al-Shaheen, naturally, you will have a place in its future." "We should not lose focus of the safety and continuity of operations which are at the cornerstone of our objectives." Al-Kaabi added.
Following his speech, Al-Kaabi led an open Q&A session, during which he answered questions from Maersk Oil Qatar employees.
The events were attended by Maersk Oil Qatar’s employees, including Managing Director Lewis Affleck and Sheikh Faisal Bin Fahad Al-Thani Deputy Managing Director.
QP’s President & CEO was accompanied by the corporation’s Executive Vice Presidents and other members of the Management Team.
