Myanmar State Counselor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi will pay an official visit to Thailand soon, said an official announcement Monday without specifying the date of her visit.

At the invitation of Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Suu Kyi is scheduled to pay the visit on June 23-25, reports said.

Suu Kyi's planned trip comes more than a month after Thai prime minister 's special envoy Don Pramudwinai, who is the foreign minister, visited Nay Pyi Taw on May 8-9, during which the two countries vowed to promote bilateral relations and economic cooperation in all sectors.

The two foreign ministers also discussed the issue of Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand, development of Dawei Special Economic Zone and cooperation in development of border areas.

There are 1.59 million registered Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand.

In the capacity of then opposition leader and parliamentarian, Aung San Suu Kyi visited Thailand and attended the World Economic Forum on East Asia held in Bangkok in May 2012 for the first time after she was then elected as a representative to the House of Representatives (Lower House) in the April 2012 by-election .

During her trip in the Thai capital, Suu Kyi also visited some Kayin ethnic refugee camps near Maesot on the Myanmar-Thai border.

Thailand is a key trade partner of Myanmar with about 4.5 billion U.S. dollars bilateral trade in 2015-16, according to the Ministry of commerce of Myanmar.

Statistics also showed that Thailand's investment in Myanmar amounted to 10.5 billion U.S.dollars as of March 2016, accounting for 16.48 percent of the total and standing the third in Myanmar's foreign investment line-up after China and Singapore since Myanmar opened its door in late 1988.
