Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit met on Wednesday with Spanish Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis in Madrid.
During their meeting, the two senior officials discussed means of boosting relations between the pan-Arab body and Spain, as well as the latest developments in the Middle East region, spokesman for AL chief Mahmoud Afifi said in a statement.
The meeting also tackled the Palestinian issue in light of efforts exerted by Egypt to reach reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas movements.
Dastis expressed hope that the reconciliation efforts exerted by Egypt would help bring about unity in Palestine and force the Israeli side to get back to the negotiating table.
He also stressed his country's full support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, saying that he is keen to get acquainted with the situation in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Iraq.
The meeting also probed the developments of the current crisis between Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain on one hand, and Qatar on the other hand.
