Amman - Arabstoday

As the local film industry continues to develop and move beyond the occasional desert epic or exotic melodrama, there is a need to take new approaches to address piracy, which remains common in Jordan and the region, local producer Nadine Toukan said earlier this week. Speaking at the first monthly talk in the American Community School’s (ACS) “Speaker Series”, Toukan, executive producer of “When Monaliza Smiled” and “Captain Abu Raed”, discussed the growing cinema industry in Jordan and why it is increasingly attracting interest regionally and from around the world, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times. Next month, the ACS will host The Jordan Times reporter and activist Rana Husseini, who will deliver a lecture on honour crimes and investigative reporting, while Senator Aqel Biltaji will discuss Christianity in the Kingdom and “how Jordan’s faiths combine to make it a destination for tourists” in December, the statement said.
