Antiquities Minister Mamdouh el Damaty underlined that his ministry exerts its utmost efforts to make the military citadels region in Suez Canal axis a tourist area because it represents an important part of Egypt's history.

The minister's remark came during the inauguration ceremony of the antiquities temporary exhibition in the Suez National Museum on Monday under the rubric of "Suez Canal Navigation in history".

This comes as part of the activities launched by the Antiquities Ministry to mark the inauguration of the New Suez Canal.

The ceremony was attended by the Tourism Minister Khaled Ramy, representatives of the Egyptian second army as well as officials of the Antiquities Ministry.

El Damaty said that the aim of holding three archaeological exhibitions during the inauguration of the New Suez Canal is highlighting the importance of Sinai and the canal's cities.

The exhibition sheds light on the history of digging the canal during the phase between 1859 and 1869.

For his part, the tourism minister expressed his happiness to attend the activities of this archaeological exhibition, noting that a number of hotels will be opened in the area so as to attract tourists especially among businessmen.
