A handmade blessing blanket sewed by a female cancer patient went on auction this month as a fund-raising initiative for cancer children. It took the female cancer patient 10 days to sew the blanket. The asking price of the blanket is BD5,000, while the authorities will continue to receive bids until the end of June through social media websites. The Bahrain Islamic Bank last week bid for BD10,000. Bidders are welcome from inside and outside Bahrain. The woman who sewed the blanket in 10 days and needed around 5,000 minutes, wants to remain anonymous. The forty plus woman who were earlier successfully treated for ovarian cancer is now bravely fighting colon cancer. “She wants BD1 for each minute spent in sewing the blanket and the amount collected will be allocated for treatment of poor cancer children,” social activist and member of the Auction Organising Committee, Khalid Al Khayat said. Bidders should remember that it is a special king-size blanket with embroidery work and was by a courageous woman who wants to continue fighting cancer and put a smile on the face of cancer children, he explained. “The woman wants to let the world knows that this blanket is like a child to her that shared her pain and hopes. It wasn’t easy for her to give it away but she is convinced that the one who will take it will be blessed by all smiles he/she will give to these children,” he said.
