China's crude oil imports rose 2.1 percent in June from a year earlier to 22.17 million tons, or 5.42 million barrels a day (bpd), government data showed Wednesday. June imports, however, shrank by 7.4 percent from 23.95 million tons (5.64 million bpd) in May, the General Administration of Customs said on its Website. In the first half of this year, China imported 5.60 million bpd, down 1.4 percent from the same period of last year. China, the world's second-biggest energy consumer after the US, will see its energy demand peak between 2030 and 2035 on the back of expanding industrialization and urbanization, with its energy consumption growing at an annualized pace of 4.5 percent in the next 20 years, the Ministry of Land and Resources forecast said, as picked up by state-run Xinhua News Agency last month.
