Facebook bought Oculus VR in 2014 for a whopping $2 billion. As per latest news, Facebook’s VR App will hit the market earlier than expected, Science World Report says.
Facebook’s VR App is an effort by Zuckerberg to compete in the virtual reality and artificial intelligence space.
The new VR app will be first steps in a world where Facebook.com and websites will be less relevant.
Facebook’s VR App is preparing for 10-20 years from now when people won’t interact using computers and mobiles. Facebook has been working on the prototypes for quite some time. It showcased the first social VR experience in its conference in April 2016.
Facebook had unveiled Social VR that allowed users to visit photospheres, take virtual selfies and customize their avatars. These features were modest considering other VR devices available in the market. But Facebook seems to have come a long way since then.
Recently at its Oculus connect keynote on October 6, Facebook demonstrated social interaction in virtual reality. Mark Zuckerberg demonstrated features of Avatar over social interactions, video calling, and video spheres.
Facebook’s chief technology officer, Mike Schroepfer, wrote, “Facebook showed [its] vision for a future of computing that puts people first, allowing you to go anywhere and do anything with the friends and family that matter to you.” As reported by Techtimes.
Facebook’s VR App will be launched “as soon as possible,” He further added. Facebook wants to give its users the new VR experiences quickly to get their feedback and improve further.
Facebook’s social VR team has experimented with several online experiences focused on socializing, online interaction with friends etc. Facebook has scrapped virtual gaming activities and will focus on connecting people virtually. As reported by RoadtoVR.
Facebook’s VR App will change the way we interact with our friends and may even make messenger apps obsolete. It is long before we get a perfect social VR app but may not be as long as you think.
