Dubai - Arabstoday

Seeking an edge in the world of high-end smartphones, Motorola Mobility is bringing back the "Razr" name, once attached to the best-selling phone in the world. A Motorola executive revealed yesterday that like the old Razr model, the new smartphone is also thin at 7.1mm. The phone has a stainless steel core, a Gorilla Glass screen and a nanotechnology splash guard that protects the electrical boards inside. The 4.3-inch touchscreen with qHD resolution phone runs Google's Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system and powered by 1.2GHz dual-core processor. Spiros Nikolakopoulos, Vice-President for International Retail Division, Motorola Mobility, told Gulf News that Razr was the best-selling handset from Motorola so far with 130 million units sold. It was launched in 2004. Important feature The Razr also has Moto-Cast, a synchronisation system that Nikolakopoulos called the phone's most important feature. It can serve as remote access to content on your home PC anytime, anywhere. It uses cloud technology. "You can stream content from your computer straight to your pocket [or purse] so your personal content is always within reach," he said. "And, because you don't have to upload to a third-party site, you're saving time while gaining peace of mind. That's right, your files stay safe because they stay with you." He said the region is at the vanguard of design where fashionable customers itch to stay ahead of the latest trends and the new Razr is the perfect smartphone for a perfect place, at a perfect time. Motorola claims that can be updated to the latest Android 4OS (Ice Cream Sandwich), but without near field communications (NFC) and Long-term Evolution (LTE). The phone will be available next month and will be priced at Dh2,599. Motorola was never able to come up with a phone that could match the old Razr in popularity.
