Princeton - UPI

A majority of women in the U.S. workforce do not feel that gender has unfairly derailed a promotion or a raise, a Gallup survey found. Gallup said Saturday 15 percent of women in the workforce indicated in a survey that gender played a part in an unfairly handled promotion, while 13 percent indicated they had been denied a raise due to gender bias. Gallup said the data held up across various demographic groups with one exception: More women identifying themselves as liberals felt they had been unfairly treated due to gender as compared to those identifying themselves as Republicans. "Together, these findings reveal that there may be some political or ideological issues at play in perceptions of gender fairness in the workplace," Gallup said. Gallup said the data were derived from an annual Work and Education Survey, conducted Aug. 7-11. The survey included responses from 1,039 adults, age 18 and older, employed full or part time. The margin of error was 4 percentage points.
