H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, GWU, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, FDF, and Head of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, has sponsored the UAE participation in the international bazaar, organised by the United Nations to raise funds for underprivileged women and children across the world.
She stressed that the efforts of the United Nations continue to alleviate the suffering of women and children in poor countries suffering from wars and conflicts. Any contribution toward these efforts is important to enable the achievement of humanitarian goals.
Sheikha Fatima's sponsorship of the UAE participation in the annual charity bazaar is based on her strong belief in the importance of joining hands with the United Nations to expand the organisation's humanitarian outreach for women and children.
Sheikha Fatima's directives are aimed at ensuring that the UAE participation in the UN effort is excellent and effective.
Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, UAE Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) and other international organisations in Geneva, stressed that the UAE mission is interested in partaking in the annual event. He praised Sheikha Fatima for making humanitarian efforts in alleviating the suffering of disadvantaged women and children.
Wife of Ambassador Al Zaabi, who supervised the UAE participation in the bazaar, stressed that Sheikha Fatima's support enables the country's effective participation in international efforts. She added that the support also projects the bright image of the country in international circles.
The UAE pavilion at the bazaar, which showcased Emirati traditional foods, attires and a selection of handicrafts, attracted a large turnout of Geneva-based diplomats and officials.
The 2014 UN international bazaar raised funds for 60 projects for women and children in 38 countries.
