Former US first lady Nancy Reagan is "slowly" recovering from a fall a few weeks ago which left her with fractured ribs, her spokeswoman said Wednesday. The 90-year-old widow of president Ronald Reagan canceled her attendance at an event at the Reagan Library in California on Tuesday evening because doctors her advised her against it, said spokeswoman Joanne Drake. "Weeks ago Mrs. Reagan took a fall at home and fractured a number of ribs," she told AFP. "She has been recovering slowly and has been adding a few appointments back on to her schedule, but was advised by her doctor not to try and attend large events too far from home just yet. "She personally invited Congressman Paul Ryan to speak at the Reagan Library and really wanted to be there, but sent her apologies to him early yesterday," she said in an email. The fall occurred at Reagan's home in Bel Air, just outside Los Angeles in March, CNN reported. The Reagan Library is in Simi Valley, an hour or so north of the city. Nancy Reagan appears in public relatively rarely. Last year she laid a wreath for her husband at the Presidential Library on the 100th anniversary of his birthday in February.
