Arlington - UPI

A 91-year-old Washington woman said she plans to sell her belongings so she can afford to bury her late husband. Elsie Smith told ABCNews.com Friday she hopes selling all of her possessions through an estate sale she will be able to afford to bury her husband in the same cemetery as their family members in Snohomish, Wash. The sale was scheduled for this weekend. Smith and her husband, the late Joe Smith, were together for "46 and a half years," she said. Joe Smith had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for the past two years until he passed away on at the age of 88 on Feb. 5. "I loved that man more than anything in this whole wide world," she told KOMO-TV, Seattle. "I love the things I have here, but if I can't have them, I can't have them," she said. Things up for sale included VHS tapes, jewelry and her knickknacks, among other things. Elsie Smith said she made a promise to Joe to bury him in the same cemetery his family was buried in. "Why? Because he asked for it. He said so many times, 'Elsie, don't have me cremated. I don't want to be cremated,'" she said.
