Greenville - UPI

The condition of a South Carolina woman who contracted a flesh-eating bacteria after delivering twins in Atlanta has been upgraded to "good," doctors said. Lana Kuykendall, 36, underwent about 20 surgical procedures after being diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis in early May, CNN reported Friday. Officials at Greenville Memorial Hospital in South Carolina said Kuykendall's condition was "good" and her recovery will continue at a rehabilitation facility adjacent to the hospital. Her surgical intervention, including skin grafts, didn't require amputations as was the case for 24-year-old Aimee Copeland of Georgia, who lost body parts to the flesh-eating bacteria. Dr. Bill Kelly of Greenville Memorial said Kuykendall's prognosis is good but she faces a long rehabilitation process. Her husband, Darren, said she is now able to stand and take small steps with the aid of a physical therapist. "This is a wonderful milestone in her recovery," he said.
