Ankara - UPI

Turkish lawmakers say they are negating a bylaw that bans female deputies from wearing pants in Parliament. Justice and Development Party parliamentary group deputy chairman Nurettin Canikli announced the change on television Sunday night, Today's Zaman reported. The change comes shortly after the Parliament ended its longstanding ban on women wearing headscarves in Parliament chambers. Revisions of the Turkish Parliament's dress code began after Republican People's Party deputy Safak Pavey was elected to office in June 2011. She found herself in a difficult position because she has a prosthetic leg and pants are most comfortable for her.
