The Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood has called for the preparation of a comprehensive study on children's addiction to smart devices in the UAE, to diagnose the phenomenon and suggest possible solutions.
Reem Abdullah Al Falasi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, said that this suggestion was presented to the council during the 'Children’s Addiction to Smart Devices Seminar', held at the headquarters of the General Women's Union and was highly praised by its participants, due to the fact that there are related international and Arab statistics about children and smart devices, but no local figures.
She added that H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, has given considerable attention to mothers and children, while seeking to provide them with protection and care and reduce the risks to their well-being, along with encouraging mothers to raise their children in a manner that prepares them for the future.
Al Falasi went on to say that the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood also suggested a dialogue to address the phenomenon of children’s addiction to smart devices, which is expected to be hosted by the General Women’s Union on 20th November 2017, coinciding with International Children’s Day, which will see the participation of over 100 people, including specialists, educators and parents.
The council also expressed its willingness to invite doctors and psychologists to attend the session, to highlight the problem and the psychological and physical effects of children’s addiction to smart devices.
