HH the Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) Sheikha Moza bint Nasser , on Tuesday attended the special address of distinguished French sociologist and philosopher Dr. Edgar Morin “Education in Life” on the first day of the 5th session of World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) 2013, now in progress in Doha. The address was on the subject of education in life , where Dr. Morin spoke about the importance of teaching students subjects that are neglected but can help them with their personal life, their positions as members of a community, citizens and human beings. “To live is to navigate in an ocean of uncertainty,” said Dr Morin. The compartmentalization of discipline-based knowledge in teaching and research makes it impossible to tackle fundamental global problems but also knowledge of many vital problems facing our civilization is not taken into account. Dr. Edgar Morin is a sociologist and philosopher; he is also the Emeritus Director of Research at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France. He is one of France’s leading contemporary thinkers. He presents his thinking on education in La t?te bien faite, Relier les connaissances. His book Seven Complex Lessons in Education for the Future addresses the challenges in education. Edgar Morin has concentrated on developing a method that can meet the challenge of the complexity of our world and reform thinking, preconditions for confronting all fundamental, global problems. The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) was established by Qatar Foundation in 2009 under the patronage of its Chairperson, Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. WISE is an international, multi-sectoral platform for creative thinking, debate and purposeful action in order to build the future of education through innovation. WISE is now an ongoing initiative and a global reference in new approaches to education. Through both the annual Summit and a range of continuing programs WISE is promoting collaboration and building the future of education.
