Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab met representatives of a campaign called "Egyptian female conscripts" on Sunday.
Mahlab said the president had received telegraphs from some girls urging him to accept female conscripts in the army. The president had given directives to hold a meeting with the girls and listen to their ideas, the premier said.
For their part, the girls said they represent nearly 15,000 girls keen to volunteer in the army and carry weapons to help defend the nation.
They called for establishing military schools and faculties for women and introduce "voluntary enlistment" for girls.
"As Egypt is going through a war against terrorism and extremism, we are ready to volunteer now," they said.
Mahlab said all their ideas will be considered.
