Indonesian Minister of Women`s Empowerment and Child Protection Yohana Yembise is mapping out the needs of Afghanistan, which is studying various matters concerning Indonesia, especially Indonesian government`s policy on women`s empowerment.
"We are mapping the wishes of Afghanistan. Hence, we focus on accompanying the country`s representatives," she said, on the sidelines of her activities to accompany the Afghan First Lady Rula Ghani in Jakarta, on Monday.
According to Yembise, Afghanistan was interested in the Indonesian nation`s ideology of Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika or unity in diversity, as the slogan of the Indonesian nation, which trigger harmony in Indonesia. The country was also interested in exchanging experiences with Indonesia on women`s empowerment.
For the short-term program in 2018, Yembise noted that Indonesia will invite five representatives from Afghanistan to learn about women`s empowerment in Indonesia.
Ghani`s visit to Indonesia in early December 2017 comes as a return visit after Yohana visited Afghanistan in May 2017. At the time, Yembise was a speaker at a symposium on the women`s empowerment in Afghanistan.
"The government hopes that Afghan women would become mediators of internal and international peacemakers and religious leaders and also contribute to resolving conflicts to support peace ... Not all conflict can be solved by men, but some conflicts can be overcome by women too," Yembise remarked.
Meanwhile, Ghani said that she does not have a deep knowledge about Indonesia and therefore, she wishes to study more about Indonesia and its positive sides.
She stated that many things can be learned from Indonesia, especially in terms of the empowerment of women, including legal products, the process of eliminating discrimination and violence against women, conflict prevention, and movement of women, among others.
"I want to learn more about the problems faced in Indonesia," she pointed out
