Residents of Paris have a choice of two women as their next mayor, who will be known as the very first "Madame le Maire." A second round of municipal elections will be held on Sunday. The two women vying for the position are Socialist candidate Anne Hidalgo, 54, and conservative Union for a Popular Movement candidate Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, 40. The Spanish-born Hidalgo is the current deputy mayor of Paris for incumbant Bertrand Delanoë, and has served in that position since 2001. Kosciusko-Morizet, known by her initials NKM, served as the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport, and Housing in the government of former President Nicolas Sarkozy from 2010-2012. Both women have used social media to promote their candidacy, with Hidalgo conveying her candidacy as one of progress and NKM as "a new energy for Parisians."
