Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), Dr. Shaikha Mariam bint Hassan Al Khalifa, today met the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, in the presence of the SCW's Secretary-General Hala Al-Ansari, in the framework of the preparatory meetings for the discussion of the Third official report on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, scheduled to be held on Tuesday in Geneva.Pillay hailed Bahrain's efforts in protecting women's rights, implementing its international obligations and achieving tangible progress in the field of women's empowerment.She also commended the significant resolutions recently issued regarding the removal and re-formulating of Bahrain's reservations about the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, in addition to amending granting the Bahraini citizenship to the children of a Bahraini woman married to a non-Bahraini according to certain controls, confirming the support of the High Commissioner for Human Rights for the efforts exerted in empowering women at various levels for achieving family stability.SCW's Deputy President affirmed the support of Bahrain's political leadership for enhancing women's status, which interprets the government's national strategy for promoting Bahraini women who are partners in the process of construction and development.The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights is an international agency of the United Nations aims to support and protect human rights in accordance with international conventions and agreements set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948.
