Berlin - Anadolu

Turkish-German University (TGU) in Berlin will start 2013-2014 academic term on September 16. Turkish and German government decided to establish such a university and signed an agreement in 2008. Federal Minister for Education and Research Johanna Wanka, the rector of the TGU Halil Akkanat, President of the TGU German Consortium Rita Sussmuth and officials from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) attended the presentation conference for the beginning of the education program for the new university. TGU rector Akkanat said that the preparations since 2010 have been completed and the university would open its doors in 2013-2014 academic term in three departments on September 16. Akkanat said that the departments of law, business and mechatronics would be opened at first with a number of 45 students for each department, in total 135. "40 of the students will be from Turkey and 5 for each department will be from German speaking countries," Akkanat noted. He pointed out that they were working with 29 universities in Germany and that the students of TGU would benefit from the facilities of these universities. Noting that they would continue education in the main building which would be built in Beykoz district of Istanbul in 2016-2017 academic term, Akkanat said that 70 percent of the buildings would have been completed in 2016-2017 academic term.
