H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), chaired a meeting of the AUS Board of Trustees held today in London.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan thanked the members of the board for their efforts and expressed satisfaction at the university’s progress and approved a number of initiatives to help the university’s development and growth.

The board approved the launch of a new Bachelor of Arts in Psychology to respond to increasing demand among students and to fulfill the university’s mandate to become a center of research for educational development that contributes to solving the challenges faced by societies, said Dr. Bjorn Kjerfve, Chancellor of AUS.

"The psychology major was approved following increasing interest in a psychology major by students," Chancellor Kjerfve said.

"The psychology major is being initiated as a response to the commitment to providing better mental health services in the region, as well as to ongoing faculty achievements in the AUS psychology laboratory and increasing interest in research collaborations from institutions across the world," Dr. Kjerfve added.

Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Kjerfve, expressed his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan for his continued support to AUS and to members of the Board of Trustees for their sincere efforts towards the advancement of the university.
