More than six female students from Abu Dhabi University (ADU) have travelled to Scotland to attend a month-long training programme at the Al Maktoum College of higher education in Dundee. The programme is sponsored by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance. The ADU students will join their peers from eight universities in the UAE and Qatar in a programme designed to accommodate female students. The aim of the programme is for students to learn and experience multiculturalism, leadership, cultural engagement as well as enhance their awareness of international issues. The trainees will get an overview of the UK legislative bodies and gain first-hand experience of the mechanics of government. "The main focus of this programme is to provide students with leadership skills — a fundamental skill for today's Emirati workforce," said Dr Nabeel Ebrahim, Chancellor of ADU. "It will also boost their self-confidence and expose them to the diversity of team work." He added the programme was designed to equip the students with the ability to deal and work efficiently with people from different cultures in order to function better in a global society. The Al Maktoum College aims to educate the next generation of scholars through research-driven programmes within a multicultural context.
