NYU
Abu Dhabi - WAM

NYU Abu Dhabi's undergraduate Degree programmes in general engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering have been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programmes in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

Sunil Kumar, NYUAD Professor of Engineering and former divisional Dean, who led the university's accreditation process, said that accreditation is confirmation that NYUAD's engineering mission to educate and shape leaders in technology and innovation for the modern, technologically advanced, competitive global society is supported by a cutting-edge and rigorous curriculum.

"In our effort to attract students and retain top faculty talent, we must define who we are and demonstrate that our research programmes and academic instruction is structured in such a way that we are delivering on our mission," Kumar said. "ABET accreditation proves that we are succeeding."

Sought after worldwide, ABET's voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programmes in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision, and safety are of the utmost importance.

Developed by technical professionals from ABET's member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at programme curricula, faculty, facilities and institutional support, and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia, and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.

ABET, which was formerly known as the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation recognised by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, CHEA. It currently accredits almost 3,500 programmes at nearly 700 colleges and universities in 28 countries.

NYU Abu Dhabi offers five Degree programmes in engineering, all of which are now ABET-accredited. Drawing on a diverse and experienced faculty with a breadth of research interest, and closely linked to ABET-accredited engineering departments at the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering in Brooklyn, NY, the NYUAD Engineering Programme is designed to create technological leaders with a global perspective, a broad education, and the capacity to think creatively.
