Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, MBRU, today announced its receiving of a support fund of AED5 million from Easa Saleh Al Gurg, ESAG, Charity Foundation to provide talented undergraduate Emirati students with scholarships for Bachelor Degree programmes offered at the university.

As per the agreement inked between both parties, the ESAG Charity Foundation launched the ‘ESAG Charity Foundation scholarship programme for MBRU Emirati Students with a donation of AED5 million.

The programme aims to help develop and grow the UAE health sector through funding scholarships for Emirati students who cannot afford to pay for their own education, for the MBRU’s Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MBBS, six-year programme.

The scholarship programme comes ahead of the start of the first batch in September at the College of Medicine, in which 60 students will start their medical education journey. Scholarships will be granted to Emirati students meeting the necessary criteria from this batch.

The agreement was signed recently at the ESAG Charity Foundation Headquarters in Dubai.

Dr. Amer Ahmad Sharif, Chief Executive Officer, Education Sector, Dubai Healthcare City Authority and Mariam Easa Saleh Al Gurg, Vice Chairperson of the ESAG Charity Foundation, signed the agreement in the presence of senior officials from both entities.

Speaking on the importance of the partnership, Dr. Sharif said, "Such initiatives are important in attracting Emirati students to the medical field. This will contribute in building generations empowered with the skills and expertise to develop the UAE health sector."

"We at MBRU would like to thank the ESAG Charity Foundation for their munificence and support in creating such opportunities for our youth. I hope this generous gesture by the ESAG Charity Foundation will encourage other entities to follow suit so more students can benefit from scholarships," he added.

Mariam Easa Saleh Al Gurg said, "This agreement aims to support the education sector in the Emirate of Dubai, especially outstanding students who cannot afford to pay for their medical education. We are very pleased to have partnered with Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, a great edifice of higher and medical education in Dubai, which shares similar goals with our institution aiming to promote the status of Dubai and the UAE in the field of medicine, specialty and health sciences."
