With an 186th place, the King Saud University has maintained its position among the top 200 universities in the world, according to the Webometrics Rankings of World Universities. It also ranked it as the top university in the Arab world and 19th in Asia. The ranking placed King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) at 302nd position. KSU which had a 164th spot in 2010, has been pushed back 22 positions this year. The ranking is published by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) located in Madrid. The ranking started in 2004 and is updated every January and July. "The achievements of KSU and KFUPM show that the higher education in the Kingdom is getting closer to global standards," a KSU statement quoted by the Saudi Press Agency said on Friday. Institute of Higher Education of Shanghai Jiao Tong University placed KSU among the top 400 universities in the world in 2010.
