Jeddah - Arabstoday

King Abdulaziz University's engineering students have presented a number of innovative projects during an exhibition in Jeddah recently, impressing both teachers and visitors. “Every project was unique and impressive,” said Abdul Malik Jinaidi, dean of the Faculty of Engineering. “It gave our students an opportunity to display their skills and prove that they can deliver,” he added. The projects were useful for the common man. “The air-conditioning and fridge project they presented can be very useful in the kitchen while the fire alarm clock and the anti-fire system can be applied in schools and colleges,” said a staff member. “The smart swimming pool and the emergency gate in highway projects can save human lives. The walking phone charger is useful for regular walkers while the micro forge and cotton candy machine are cost efficient.” “The effort taken by these young engineers to develop these projects is admirable,” said Khaled Al-Ghamdi, head of the Technical Language Support Unit. The projects were presented by teams of students headed by Shoaib Habeeb, Adnan Morsheed, Abdul Elah, Yousuf Ashmawi, Muhammad Saeedi, Faisal Al Sulaimi, Saleh Al-Nahdi, Asem Taher and Adnan Turkistani. An international delegation comprising reputable engineering academics visited KAU recently. The delegation, which was welcomed by Vice President Adnan Zahed, included Sumitra Banerjee, professor of electrical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur; Azrar Al-Hassan, professor of production engineering at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University in Tangier, Morocco; and Mahmoud El-Halwagi, professor of chemical engineering at Texas and A&M University, USA. The meeting was attended by Al-Jinaidi, adviser to the KAU vice president Ahmed Al-Saidi, Zahed Scientific Affairs' Supervisor Dr. Adil Al-Ahmadi and Dr. Mohammed Ajour from the Faculty of Engineering. “The meeting discussed prospects of mutual cooperation in the areas of student exchange and joint research,” said Zahed, adding that the meeting helped identify areas of mutual cooperation in scientific research in line with KAU's policy of seeking to provide a high-quality education and taking advantage of the capacity and expertise of other local and foreign universities.
