The 9th edition of the UNESCO King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of ICTs in Education will be presented in early 2018.
"The award, which was launched under the auspices of HM the King, reflects royal keenness on promoting education and highlighting UNESCO humanitarian goals", said Education Minister Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi.
In an interview with Bahrain News Agency (BNA), the minister announced the opening of five new hi-tech schools at an overall cost that exceeded BD34 million.
He stressed the full readiness of 211 schools across Bahrain to welcome thousands of students who will return to their classrooms on September 10. The figure includes 10,000 beginners and 1,400 others transferred from private to public schools.
The ministry has allocated 650 buses to provide transport to around 37,000 students, in addition to 12 buses equipped with wheel chairs and electrical lifts, which will be put at the disposal of students with special needs.
Two other schools will start integrating autistic and deaf students, bringing the overall number of schools accommodating this category of pupils to 77.
"The ministry has provided all the requirements for a successful back-to-school", he said, congratulating students, teachers and parents. He commended the government for promoting education as the cornerstone of development and economic and social prosperity.
Al-Nuaimi paid tribute to teachers, commending their crucial role in achieving educational development goals and bringing up generations.
