Irbid - Petra

A delegation representing the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), on Wednesday, visited a number of schools in Irbid's Bani Obaid district, where Syrian students are currently studying.
The Norwegian delegation was briefed on the school environment, classrooms and the education process in these classes that run through evening shifts.
Director of the Irbid Education Department, Fawaz Tamimi, said the department needs more infrastructure, such as school buildings and other facilities, to reduce overcrowding in schools, caused mainly by an influx of Syrian students.
Coordinator of an NRC-sponored education program project, Reem Shammout, explained that the project focuses on regions where schools receive Syrian students, such as in the Irbid governorate. The project will also support 40 schools that host Syrian students, mostly in Irbid.
Accelerated Learning Program Officer at NRC, Abeer Ammouri, said the council wants to determine the quality of education provided to Syrian and Jordanian students, noting that coordinators will be appointed between NRC and the education departments in order to facilitate implementation of NRC's support program in the schools.
