Muscat - Arab today

A new international school in Oman will commence its first academic year on April 17 with more than 145 students.

Called the ISWKi (Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir–International), the school is affiliated with the Cambridge board, United Kingdom, and will prepare learners to take the IGCSE and AS/A level exams for all its classes from Kindergarten to Year 7. It will be supervised the by Board of Directors of the Indian Schools in Oman.

The tuition fees for classes will range from OMR110 to OMR180, and parents opting for breakfast, lunch and a safe transport system from the school will have to pay extra for these services. Although initially starting with classes up to year 7, the school will increase the offering to senior classes based on growing demand.

The new school building is located very close to the Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir (junior block) and will have no more than 24 students in every classroom. Toilets are equipped with laser censors to avoid wastage of water.

Speaking at a press conference, Harshendu Shah, the honorary president of the School Management Committee pointed out major highlights, “We have full authorisation from the Ministry of Education in Oman, and the school is a green building with lots of eco-friendly installations. We are trying to make it a different school in terms of students’ development, with more weightage being given to the implementation of whatever is learnt in classrooms.”

“There will be a range of different sports and extra-curricular activities offered at the school. To reduce the bag weight the school, will have lockers for every student and a mix between traditional and smart teaching methods, with Apple labs and other such teaching devices. It’s the first school building to be connected entirely with fibre optic cables.”

It is a day boarding school, and timings for senior children will run until 4.30pm, where students will have the opportunity to brush up on the subjects they are weak in and be part of several extracurricular activities.

Nazim Qureshi, vice principal of ISWKi said, “The courses will be administered by highly qualified and experienced staff, which joined us after going through a rigorous professional selection process. The school will be set on the latest use of technology in imparting globalised learning experience for the students.”

Admissions for the 2017-2018 year are still open on a first come, first serve basis and once the capacity is full for the specific class, they will not be accepting any more students for the class. Prospective students and their parents can email admission@iswki.org.
